Recreation fans will most certainly find their own piece of heaven on Earth on Pokljuka.
Traditionally, Pokljuka is known as the home of Slovenian biathletes; however, recreational cross-country skiers are the most numerous recreational athletes in the winter. Over 30 kilometres of regularly maintained skiing and cross-country skiing trails connect different parts of Pokljuka (from Rudno polje to Javorniška planina and …). The trails are put in order from the first snow to the end of March and await recreational athletes eager for snowy pleasures.
In the summer, the plateau is flooded by mountaineers and hikers, while the number of cyclists is also increasing. For mountain cyclists in particular, there are some 80 kilometres of intertwining forest paths, which offer pleasant forest rides as well as adrenaline pleasures.
Hikes across Pokljuka are possible in the winter or summer. You will be guided to the nearby Alpine meadows (Uskovnica, Javorniška planina, …); the Pokljuka bogs are of special interest. On the path you can admire the untamed nature and breathe in the fresh mountain air and renew the wellbeing of your body and mind with physical activity.
Pokljuka is one of the most suitable points of departure for ascending the Slovenian patriarch – Triglav. Slightly more than a four-hour walk separates Rudno polje from the Aljaž Tower. The many impressions from the path, which you will be able to dwell on upon your return in the afternoon or evening, will fill you will a pleasant sense of triumph.
